Timing belt failure on an interference engine — which includes most modern engines — results in catastrophic valve and piston damage. Repair costs typically run into thousands of pounds, and in many cases the engine is beyond economic repair. Prevention is simple and comparatively inexpensive: replace the timing belt at the manufacturer's recommended interval.
Most manufacturers recommend timing belt replacement every 4–5 years or 60,000–100,000 miles, whichever comes first. However, some vehicles (particularly Audi, VW, and Land Rover models) have shorter intervals. We can check your vehicle's specific schedule and advise when yours is due.
Our timing belt replacement always includes the water pump, tensioner, and idler pulleys. These components have the same service life as the belt and are inaccessible once the belt is fitted. Replacing them now is a fraction of the cost of replacing them separately later — and it eliminates the risk of a new belt being damaged by a failing water pump or tensioner.
For vehicles with timing chains (common on BMW, Mercedes, and some VW/Audi engines), we replace the chain, guides, and tensioners. While chains typically last longer than belts, they do eventually stretch and can cause timing faults, reduced performance, and rattling noises.
