Air Conditioning Service

Air Con Regas, Leak Detection & Compressor Repair

Is your car's air conditioning blowing warm? Air conditioning systems lose refrigerant gradually over time and need periodic recharging to maintain optimal performance. JLR Autocare offers a complete air conditioning service — from straightforward regassing to leak detection and compressor repair — for all makes and models at our Hitchin and Souldrop workshops.

Your vehicle's air conditioning system should be serviced every two years to maintain efficiency and prevent expensive component failure. Over time, refrigerant gas naturally escapes through microscopic pores in hoses and seals. Regular regassing keeps the system running efficiently and extends the life of the compressor — the most expensive component to replace.

We service both R134a and R1234yf refrigerant systems using calibrated, automatic AC machines. Newer vehicles (manufactured from 2017 onwards) use the more expensive R1234yf refrigerant — we carry both in stock for immediate service.

If your AC system isn't holding gas, we use UV dye injection and electronic leak detectors to pinpoint the source. Common leak points include O-rings, hose crimps, the condenser (vulnerable to stone damage), and the compressor shaft seal. We provide a clear quotation for any necessary repairs before proceeding.

We also recommend an anti-bacterial treatment to eliminate musty odours caused by mould and bacteria growth in the evaporator housing. This treatment cleans the system and improves air quality inside the cabin — particularly beneficial for allergy sufferers.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I regas my air conditioning?

We recommend regassing every 2 years to maintain optimal cooling performance and protect the compressor from damage.

Why does my air conditioning smell musty?

Moisture collects in the evaporator housing, creating conditions for mould and bacteria growth. Our anti-bacterial treatment eliminates odours and improves cabin air quality.

Which refrigerant does my car use?

Most vehicles manufactured before 2017 use R134a. Newer vehicles use R1234yf. We carry both in stock and our team will identify the correct type for your vehicle.
