A blocked DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is one of the most common and expensive problems affecting modern diesel vehicles. Before you consider an expensive DPF replacement, speak to JLR Autocare. Diesel particulate filters trap soot particles from the exhaust. Under normal driving conditions, the vehicle performs automatic regeneration — burning off accumulated soot at high temperature. However, frequent short journeys, urban driving, and faulty sensors can prevent this regeneration from completing, leading to a blocked DPF and a warning light on your dashboard.

Our first step is always a thorough diagnostic assessment. We measure DPF soot loading, check pressure differential sensors, inspect temperature sensors, and review the regeneration history. This tells us whether the DPF can be cleaned or whether there's an underlying fault preventing regeneration.

For moderately blocked DPFs, we perform a forced regeneration using manufacturer-level diagnostic equipment. For heavily blocked filters, we use professional chemical cleaning solutions that dissolve accumulated soot and ash deposits without removing the DPF from the vehicle.

Crucially, we always investigate why the DPF became blocked in the first place. Common causes include faulty pressure sensors, failed temperature sensors, EGR valve faults, turbo issues, or injector problems. Fixing the root cause prevents the DPF from blocking again after cleaning.
